Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine

Provide primary care services in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) located in California’s beautiful western sierras. Shingletown is a small town located along California State Route 44 in the hills just below Mount Lassen. Work as an integral part of our provider staff by participating in our medical/behavioral health team, QA/QI and specialty staff teams. Will also perform supervision of PA/NP staff and medical trainees.

You will provide and manage direct patient care of all ages. Shingletown Medical Center (SMC) is open Monday – Friday days. Our experienced support team will assist you in assuring the adequacy and appropriateness of medical care provided to patients.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Training, and Licensure):

  • Currently licensed to practice medicine in the State of California.
  • Current Board Certification in Primary Care, Family Practice or Internal Medicine or be board eligible.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration Registration.
  • Current BCLS, ACLS and PALS certifications.
  • Complete patient charting and billing within 48 hours of patient visit.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge with electronic health records experience preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The work environment is characteristic of a rural healthcare facility environment. SMC does provide video visits and home visits as required by our patient population.

Responsibilities

You will work closely with and supervise PA/NP staff in order to:

  • Conduct routine examinations of patients to assess their health condition and discover possible medical issues
  • Give appropriate advice for healthy habits (diet, hygiene etc.) and preventative actions to promote overall health
  • Order and interpret lab tests to obtain additional information on the health of patients.
  • Prescribe medications/medical equipment and provide comprehensive instructions to patients
  • Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical staff to form a high performing team
  • Examine and provide treatments for injuries and refer patients to specialty physicians when needed. SMC has a robust Telemedicine program of specialty providers.
  • Keep detailed and up to date records with the assistance of our nursing/MA team.
  • Cultivate a climate of trust and compassion for patients
  • Remain up-to-date with developments and best practices in medicine by attending current training

Skills

  • Proven experience as a physician
  • Strong understanding of examination methodologies and diagnostics
  • Excellent knowledge of infectious diseases, their symptoms and epidemiology
  • Broad knowledge of common medication, side effects and contraindications
  • In-depth knowledge of legal medical guidelines and medicine best practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Respect for patient’s confidentiality
  • Compassionate and approachable
  • Physician degree, MD or DO and valid license to practice in the state of California
