Public Health Nurse - STI Prevention

American Indian Health Service of Chicago, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Public Health Nurse to join our team and focus on STI prevention efforts. This position is funded by the Indian Health Service under the Public Health Nurse grant.

Position Overview

As a Public Health Nurse specializing in STI prevention, you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing community health programs, conducting health assessments, and providing education to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections. This position requires programmatic management of the PHN-STI grant, including monthly and quarterly reporting to AIHSC and PHN Grant Program Official.

Qualifications

  • Current, active, full and unrestricted license as a professional nurse
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum of one year professional nursing experience
  • High level of cultural competence

Key Responsibilities

  • Design program plans to mobilize community partnerships and address emerging infectious and communicable diseases
  • Conduct community assessments to identify at-risk subpopulations
  • Implement surveillance methods for community health trends
  • Provide health education to individuals, families, and community groups
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate care plans
  • Manage the PHN-STI grant, including monthly and quarterly reporting
  • Conduct monthly patient check-ins to assess medication adherence and side effects
  • Administer vaccinations in non-traditional settings
  • Provide HIV prevention services to high-risk populations
  • Manage childhood lead program, including case management and home visits
  • Coordinate community clinic activities
  • Stay abreast of new trends in public health nursing
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure timely input of information into RPMS

## Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide Family Case Management services
  • Manage vaccination clinic and administer immunizations
  • Collect and analyze healthcare-associated data for infection prevention
  • Monitor employee compliance with infection prevention measures
  • Prepare and present educational training for staff
  • Implement policies to prevent adverse events
  • Conduct outbreak investigations and initiate control measures
  • Report communicable diseases to the state as required by law
  • Participate in performance improvement activities
  • Participate in the monthly Indian Health Service PHN-STI meetings.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in electronic health records and other healthcare technologies
  • Experience in phlebotomy and intramuscular injections
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse populations
