KHS reasonably expects to pay starting compensation for the position of Systems Administrator III in the range of $41.08 - 53.27 hourly.

** Hybrid Position **

General Purpose:

The Systems Administrator III must possess demonstrable advanced expertise in storage management, data center operations, backup solutions, and virtualization technologies. This position requires a strategic thinker who can support design and implement robust infrastructure solutions to meet the organization's evolving needs.

This role includes responsibility for usage monitoring, the broadcast and enforcement of system standards, and other work as required. This position participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.

Incumbents are expected to be proficient in the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, client and server systems, systems analysis and architecture, application configuration and integration, telecommunication administration, organizational techniques, application security administration, backup and disaster recovery systems, and related processes used in the Kern Health Systems (KHS) Information Technology (IT) Department. This individual will assist project teams with technical issues in all phases of our standard Project Management Methodology. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research and development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and implementation of the solutions. The position will be required to work with people of various professional, vocational, and educational backgrounds.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee or perform the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the various server solutions and the underlying operating systems for KHS to include the Windows Server Operating Systems.
  • Manage Microsoft Active Directory for desktop user authentication, group polices, application security, and email distribution lists.
  • Install, maintain, and upgrade all KHS client/server application environments to include the operating systems and patch management.
  • Administer the corporate messaging systems (Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Teams), secure email, and anti-spam software in support of the InfoSec Team.
  • Provide strategy and management on all data backups on a disk-to-disk solution in accordance with the KHS Disaster Recovery policy.
  • Review and manage all documentation for the physical and logical network, various client/server solutions, disaster recovery efforts, and other areas as needed.
  • Actively support the planning, design, and implementation of data center facilities, including server racks, power distribution, cooling systems, and environmental monitoring.
    1. Define and enforce data center standards and best practices for equipment installation, cable management, and physical security.
    2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute data center migrations, consolidations, and disaster recovery exercises.
  • Complement network and infosec teams to monitor and maintain all network and system logs for performance, security, and troubleshooting to include: routers, switches, intrusion detection, VPN access, firewalls, operating systems, backups, client/server applications, and other software or hardware as needed.
  • Oversee and manage the KHS virtual server (VM) environment to include provisioning new virtual servers, monitoring of VM, rightsizing and supporting hardware performance.
  • Support, maintain, and manage the hyper converged infrastructure (Nutanix), including life cycle management, data storage, maintaining connectivity, and troubleshooting performance issues; data center duties included.
  • Manage, configure, maintain and support KHS Cloud presence.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of operating system images and software installation packages for remote desktop and server delivery.
  • Provide input for the creation of the IT technology roadmap specifically as it relates to systems and network administration and management.
  • Assign, resolve, and review elevated Help Desk incidents, change management requests, or problem tickets.
  • Work as, or with, a Project Manager on project cost, resource estimation, tasking, and timely project completion and support other Project focused Systems Admin as mentor and coach.
  • Work and communicate effectively with the various professionals throughout the organization.
  • Coordinate, perform, and review educational exercises for other team members or departments in accordance with procedures formulated by the Director of IT.
  • Review, write, or modify basic scripts to resolve performance problems and automate administration tasks.

Employment Standards

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field AND eight (8) years of progressive experience in a senior level technical capacity for a medium to large organization with a structured IT department.

OR

Twelve (12) years of progressive experience in a senior level technical capacity for a medium to large organization with a structured IT department.

Experience may be substituted on a year by year basis.

Position is suited for a mid-level to advanced career analytics or technical person.

The incumbent must have basic technical skills that come from a Degree in Information Systems or 6-8 years of general analytical experience.
